A Weekly Checklist For House Cleaning – Why it is a Good Idea
If you want to be sure that you always clean your house thoroughly, in the minimum of time, and never run out of cleaning materials, I highly recommend that you have a weekly checklist for house cleaning.
I am a fan of checklists because they are the only way that I know of that you can be absolutely certain that you carry out all the essential tasks without forgetting something.
You can be sure that the moment a visitor comes into your house they will immediately spot the one area of a room that has not been properly cleaned. A checklist will save you from this type of embarrassment.
Maybe you are not like me and you have a perfect memory, but I know that my memory is not one hundred percent. There are occasions when I will forget to buy a replacement for some cleaning material that has run out. With my checklist I always make a note of the materials that are running low so that I can add them to my shopping list.
My family are devils for asking me to do small chore for them just as they are hurrying out of the door. The kids will remind me that they need clean sports kit for tomorrow’s big game just as they leap out of the car at school and I have noticed someone I want to talk to. With these sort of requests there always used to be a high probability that I would forget. But now I simply visualize my checklist and make a mental note at the top of the list to do the laundry first.
My cleaning checklist has been developed over several years. I keep honing it and refining it. Now I am really confident that it is useful because so many of my friends use it in their homes. My weekly checklist for house cleaning is a bit cumbersome for including in this article but you can view it on my website.
A word of caution – it is not enough to simply copy out a weekly checklist. You must get yourself into the habit of using your checklist every week. You will soon get into a routine if you do this and I am sure you will then find it a great help.
I have known people who develop a checklist and then expect the checklist to do the work for them. Unfortunately it doesn’t work like that – you still have to do the work. However, what you will find is that you will zoom through your house cleaning a lot faster when you always know what you have to do next.
